AIESEC: The new EB of AIESEC-Jyväskylä, Part 2

by Heidi Clee

In their Mattilanniemi office the tigers are still sleeping there tonight...

The head of Public Relations, Tsuri, was born in Joensuu in Eastern Finland. Tsuri comes from a family of supportive parents and grandparents and has a wonderful younger sister and an accomplished older brother. At 23 years of age, Tsuri moved to Jyväskylä last autumn when he began his freshman year at Jyväskylä University of Applied Science. There he is currently majoring in Software Engineering. In his short time here, his managed to already tutor international and degree students, organize the AIESEC pre-Christmas party and Success as well as still found room in his calendar for becoming an EB member, which he too has so far enjoyed.

Tsuri enjoys traveling and playing – from sports and games to musical instruments. He has been to Greece, Spain, London, Netherlands and Poland and loves to hack away on his computer and do anything from snowboarding to reading to running to playing piano, tennis, badminton, Xbox, chess and airsoft to indulging himself with Asian pop culture. With so many things he can do, why become a part of the LC? “Anna, my predecessor, pushed me. Well, more like nudged. Poked me gently in the general direction. Thus I decided, "Well what the heck, might as well give a little something back." So ha, you are stuck with me for the next fiscal year, the joke is on you!”

Tsuri is interested in seeing the world at times from a different angle. His journey into AIESEC began in a park when he was handed a brochure and asked if he would be interested in international matters. After the info meeting he finally had found something to fill in his empty calendar slots. So far being an EB member has meant a lot of planning for Tsuri too, but his objective is clear: “My objective is to provide a service that keeps the people I work for and with happy and enabled to realise their dreams.” Tsuri's motto is: to live your life so that the world will be a better place for posterity. As hard-working as he is, he is the perfect face for public relations of AIESEC-Jyväskylä and is happy to be a part of the executive board: “At the end of the day, I have ensconced myself in this amiable group of mad hatters, and I guess that's what matters the most.”

The leader of the OGX (Outgoing exchange) -team is 24-year old Maria. Maria was born in Kuopio, but has lived in Jyväskylä for already 17 years. Maria is the eldest in her family of three, having a younger brother and sister. She has been studying at the university for five years and is currently majoring in French and minoring in other languages and tourism. She enjoys sports and traveling and she can see herself working in some job related to international affairs in the future.

Maria became a part of AIESEC when she wanted to learn more about the work abroad program a few years back. Planning to graduate in the spring she decided last autumn to finally make at least some time for AIESEC and join the organization. “Last autumn I attended one info evening. I thought that it was "now or never" situation for me because I was planning to graduate in the spring. I joined and changed my study plans. So here I'm totally lured with AIESEC.” Maria is definately the right one for position as leader of the outgoing exchange team.

Becoming an EB member was a chance to have new challenges and learn new things as well as a great oppurtunity to develop herself and AIESEC-Jyväskylä. Maria is enthuasiastic about the term a head and she wishes to continue the great job which Jenni had done the previous term: “I'll work for achieving the goals we set in INPUT and enjoy the term...I find that HOT was an amazing start. Our Lao Hu Poppoo is a fabulous team and I really enjoy being part of it. We have had many good laughs and will definitively have more.”
